Through the eyes of a child, everything seems more amazing and wonderful. Like during my session with these adorable twin toddlers, everything made them laugh and smile. I had so much fun capturing their personalities on camera! They just celebrated their 2nd birthday, and you can really tell because their energy is endless! We played with bubbles, a wagon, cars, a ball, and anything else around that looked interesting (like the flower below). I had the pleasure of photographing them for the 1st birthday as well, and they've grown up so much since then (photo from 1st year session below). This time, we even got big brother and sister to hop in a few of the pictures too. I love seeing the world through a child's eyes and through their smile and laughter.

Here are the twins last year just after they turned 1 year old. Precious then and now!!

Believe it or not, I neglect to take many photos of my own family anymore. Now that I've been in business for a while, I intentionally do not take my camera with me as much so that I can have a break from photography. Don't get me wrong, I love photography...but it is now my job and no longer my hobby...and everyone deserves a weekend, right? :) I don't mind this except that I don't have as many candid shots as I would like of my own family and of my wonderful and quickly growing toddler.

So...I got inspired to do something about this when I came across a post about Project 365 on my friend Bridget's blog (who, by the way, has an excellent blog for moms out there!!). All there is to Project 365 is to take a photo every day and post it (on flickr, facebook, etc). Here's a link to Bridget's Project 365 flickr page to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. It can be a photo from a big event like a wedding or something so small like a new meal you made for dinner...anything at all! What a fun way to capture all the random, mundane moments that make up our every day lives. I read on someone's blog that completed Project 365, and she said that all those small moments that seemed to mean nothing at the time added up to be something really special at the end of the 365 days. I can't wait to chronicle this new year in a fun, brand new way!!

It was such a pleasure to take photos of this family last week. These precious girls were full of smiles and giggles which made my job much easier. I think I ended up taking around 500 photos! :) And, there were so many good shots that I had a difficult time narrowing it down to these few for the blog. We were able to capture a few candid moments too in between the more "formal" portrait shots. The Bond of Motherhood

I had the pleasure of photographing my brand new baby cousin a few weeks ago! His mom is like a sister to me, and I am so excited to be on this journey of motherhood with her! Being a mother is the most rewarding and wonderful thing I have ever done, and I am so glad to share this bond with her now too! In these photos, Baby N is almost 2 weeks old and is so tiny and precious! It is amazing to think of how much he will grow and learn in the next year! I can't wait to capture on camera all of his milestones as he learns to smile, hold his head up, sit up, stand, and then walk! Like the Darius Rucker song says, "It won't be like this for long," so cherish every moment!

A Walk down Memory Lane with the M Family

Wanted: South Campus Photo Sessions at The University of Georgia

For those of you who went to The University of Georgia, I am sure that you know of the friendly rivalry that exists between north campus students and south campus students at UGA. Basically, north campus houses most of the arts and south campus houses most of the sciences. North campus is also the oldest part of campus, which means lots of beautiful old oak and magnolia trees, luscious green quads, the Garden Club of Georgia's Founders Memorial Garden, and lots and lots of history...basically a photographers dream! Here are a couple of shots from north campus photo sessions:

While I love the beauty of north campus, south campus has a lot to offer for photographers too, especially since many of the old streets have been turned into green spaces. But, I am ashamed to say that, even though I am a proud graduate of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at UGA (on south campus nonetheless), I have not yet crossed the bridge at Sanford Stadium onto south campus to do a photo session. As I pondered this driving through campus one day, I thought, "Where could I do a session on south campus?" Then, just today, I read an article in the Athens Banner-Herald about a "secret" trial garden on south campus. This sounds like the perfect place to begin a south campus photo session.

So, if you would like to be one of the first to venture onto south campus with me and my camera, I would love to throw in a complimentary 8 x 10 print or set of 8 wallets just for showing some much-deserved love for south campus.

He is an Athens artist that depicts local Athens scenes in his paintings. Being an Athens resident and a UGA graduate myself, the paintings bring to mind many fond memories of living in this beautiful college town. They leave me with the feelings of sentiment and nostalgia. I love his work, so I thought I would share his site with all of you (www.jamiecalkin.com). Also, Jamie and his wife, Katie, were the ones that organized the event for Full Bloom yesterday. I really admire their spirit, talent, and heart.

Little Miss M was so much fun to photograph!! She is just adorable!!Her 2 year old energy and spirit were contagious! We roamed around Ashley Park, finding cute little photo spots and having fun while we did it. It was a hot day, but it didn't seem to faze our princess at all. I think the ice cream may have helped!!

At Last!!!

At last, their love has come along...their lonely days are over...and life is like a song!!!

My brother FINALLY got married!! They are such a cute couple too. Being with them is so energizing because everyone can see and feel the love they share for one another. While I was not the official photographer, I did take close to 1200 photos during their wedding weekend. I am not done editing them all, yet, so here is one photo in the meantime.

My sister-in-law (I love saying that now that it is official) absolutely loved her flowers made of pink roses and white stephanottis, all gathered at the stem and placed into a silver tussy mussy (flower holder). They were gorgeous! And, the bride and groom were gorgeous too! I can't wait to finish the rest of the photos and share them with everyone!

As college graduation looms for both of these young adults, they took time out between papers, projects, and finals to wander around with me and my camera on north campus at The University of Georgia. Not only does this couple graduate soon, they are getting married too!! I graduated from UGA a few years ago myself and also got engaged my Senior year, so I can relate to the excitement and anticipation that this couple may feel. M&M, I hope that you will look back at the moments we captured in photograph and be reminded of your time at UGA and of the love you found in each other. Happy Engagement and Happy Graduation!!

These precious twin girls were such fun to photograph. They weren't sure what to think of me at first with my crazy camera. But, when we brought out the toys, even a few new ones that I brought, they knew they could trust me. I had fun capturing their different personalities! They are going to be little heartbreakers when they grow up! And, they will always share a special bond as sisters! Happy 1st Birthday, Girls!!

Backyard Photography in Backwoods, South Carolina

This precious little girl (we'll call her RaRa) is one of my favorite subjects because I have had the pleasure of watching her grow from a tiny infant to a blossoming young lady. What is great about my portrait sessions with her is that they are usually spur of the moment which really challenges me as a photographer. On top of adjusting the camera settings to achieve the right exposure or light settings, I have to look at the surroundings and find a good backdrop for the photos. In these, I loved how the colors in pillow on the front porch swing coordinated with little RaRa's outfit and seemed to add a playful, girly splash of color to the photo. Plus, the light was amazing on the porch as the sun shined behind her while keeping her in the shade. Of course, I couldn't resist a shot of her smelling the impatiens as we all are anxiously awaiting Spring's arrival. There will be more photos of RaRa in the future...some in Backwoods, South Carolina and some elsewhere. And, by the way, don't let the title of this post fool you...I'm a country girl born and raised in Backwoods, Georgia, so I use the term "backwoods" with much love and endearment!

Children at Play

I LOVE watching children at play!! It is my favorite time to capture images of children. When children are playing, they are in their natural environment and are most comfortable. I love the looks on children's faces as they explore, learn, and play. This is when I like to capture that inquisitive look or that joyful smile. I like for the moms and dads of the children I photograph to look at the photos and think, "He always has that look on his face when he's concentrating" or "I don't ever want to forget that smile and laugh." I absolutely love it when I capture a priceless expression. It usually takes hundreds of photos to get that perfect one, but it is worth it! For those of you interested in this type of photography, I highly recommend Me Ra Koh's blog. Her "Refuse to Say Cheese" DVD is great for moms trying to capture those special moments in the lives of their children.

Taking a Leap of Faith with Photography

I've been working on starting a blog for weeks, so it is hard to know exactly what to say now that I actually have one. I feel as if the words I write in this inaugural post are somewhat monumental. I know that it cannot be complete without me saying that I absolutely LOVE photography!! I love capturing the little moments of the lives around me whether it be my adorable son, Miller, feeling snow fall on his face for the very first time (or doing just about anything), or of a pregnant woman anxiously awaiting the arrival of her new bundle of joy, or of an adorable infant peacefully sleeping, or of an ecstatic bride getting ready to marry the man of her dreams. Pure and simple, I love capturing emotions through the lens of my camera. And, I hope to turn this love and passion into a thriving business where I get to do what I love for a living everyday. Isn't that the American Dream?!? My new business, Stacey Cooke Photography in Athens, Georgia, has been a long time coming, and it feels a bit surreal that I am finally turning my beloved hobby into an actual business. Through this blog, I hope to share with you the joys of owning my own business, the highlights of my photographs, and all the emotions that go along with it.
